The Art Behind Our Backyard Babies Designs
Every design at Backyard Babies Merch comes from the band's world: their skulls, their albums and their attitude. Here's what is printed on each one, so you can pick the piece that feels most like you.
What is the skull crest?
The skull and crossbones with lightning bolts is the classic Backyard Babies mark. Skull Crest prints it in one pale tone, with backyard and babies arched around it in hand-drawn lowercase. Four by Four Skull prints the same crest in crisp white and adds a big logo ring on the back. Star Skull is a cleaner take: a solid skull with a star on each side and the band name in bold rounded capitals.
Which designs are about the albums?
- Four by Four Red: a ring of red letters around a big X, for Four by Four, the 2015 album that brought the band back after their break.
- Them XX: a weathered grey skull under the band name in blackletter, for Them XX, the 2009 collection that marked their 20th anniversary.
- Still Alright to Smile: a colourful painting of all four members with their guitars, lettered with Is It Still Alright to Smile? and Babylon, two singles from the late 1990s.
Which designs have the most attitude?
- Bandana Skull: the skull crest hiding behind a red bandana full of white graffiti tags.
- Animal Heads: an eagle, a leopard, a wolf and a pig in hats and shades, lined up like a band photo over teal paint.
- Sleazy Son of a Bitch: a torn black-and-white portrait on the front and the slogan in big brush letters on the back.
How to choose
Want something simple? Go for Star Skull or Skull Crest. Want a talking point? Animal Heads and Still Alright to Smile are full of colour and detail. Love a back print? Four by Four Skull and Sleazy Son of a Bitch print on both sides.
